The Ultimate Girls Day and Night Out

I recently had the opportunity to speak with a group of ladies who are in transition. The organizer was concerned that the group was so focused on improving their lives that they forgot to stop and have fun. So she asked me to come and share about the importance of a Girls Night Out.
Now, of course, I know the personal benefits of hanging out with my girlfriends, but I was in search of concrete evidence to convince these ladies that it was important to be surrounded by like-minded women.
Here’s what I found:
• Studies have proven that healthy friendships can actual improve the quality of your health and extend your life, in some cases. In a study of female cancer patients, those who had meaningful female friendships coped better with chemotherapy and in some cases, out lived their counterparts
• Female friendships reduce stress, help women heal and improves your self-esteem
• Healthy female relationships help you cope with trauma, like a divorce,illness or death

Numerous movements were created to meet the need of the countless women who want to connect, learn and grow with other women. The Red Hat Society was created to” [start] a legacy of fun, friendship and freedom to express ourselves and the dedication of the fulfillment of lifelong dreams”. The Red Tent movement is a return to the ancient tradition of women gathering in a central place to celebrate, embrace and nurture each other.
The DIVA Movement was created to help fulfill the void I had in my own life. As women we get so busy with our lives and the lives of our children, they we get lost in the process. I was avoiding and neglecting to build and maintain healthy female friendships.

A balanced life is good for the mind, body and soul. It is in the very DNA of a woman to seek out friendships with other ladies. We need each other to feel empowered, inspired and motivated.
